After every session the table shares stars (what worked) and wishes (what we want more of). Here's what came out of our first outing on the Shattered Plains.
⭐ Stars
- The split. The group was divided right at the start and had to work its way back together. The tension gave the whole session a strong dynamic.
- Staying in character. Players held true to their characters' choices, even when that made things harder.
- Camp scenes. Small improvised details and mini-stories around the fire defined who these bridgemen are, and they're written down for later.
- Playing off each other. Players built on each other's ideas instead of waiting their turn.
- Bridgemen together strong. The crew felt like a crew.
- The lore die. Well used, and it rewarded curiosity about the world.
- A welcoming table. New-to-Roshar players felt supported in learning the world as they went.
- Improvised GMing. Off-script moments were handled smoothly, with a good balance of guardrails and freedom to describe your own actions.
🌠 Wishes
- More space for the players. Fewer GM descriptions and more open questions. Silence is an invitation.
- More ambient world. Sprinkle in spren, crem, rockbuds, and cultural details so Roshar feels alive between the big moments.
🛠 What changes next session
- Endeavours open with a question. Expect prompts like "How do you improve the camp?" before anything is described. You fill the gap.
- Spren in every scene. Expect two or three ambient spren per scene, tied to emotion and weather. When you see one, it's telling you something about the moment.
- More texture. Crem underfoot, rockbuds opening after rain, safehands, glyphwards, chouta from street stalls, highstorm rituals.
- Camp stays. Every session keeps a camp scene.
- Spren handout. A spoiler-safe quick reference is on its way.
📚 Spren references
New to Roshar? These are safe starting points.
- Welcome to Roshar (Brotherwise Games): a short illustrated booklet covering storms, spren, flora, fauna, and cultures. Spoiler-free, and the best first read.
- Stormlight World Guide (Cosmere RPG): the official art book, with canon visuals of spren and creatures. Ask at the table to flip through it.
- Coppermind spren pages have art and descriptions of the common spren you'll meet:
⚠️ Spoiler warning: The Coppermind covers all of Brandon Sanderson's books. Stick to the individual spren pages above. Avoid the main "Spren" page and anything about Radiant spren unless you've read the series.
